In 2013 St Andrew’s Hospital became the first private South Australian hospital to embrace robotic surgery and its well recognised benefits of minimally invasive, highly accurate laparoscopic procedures.
In 2015 the da Vinci Xi Surgical Robot replaced an earlier model da Vinci machine. The purchase of this new machine was made possible as a result of a generous donation from Adelaide businessman and philanthropist, Mr Gordon Pickard. This robot provides South Australian patients with access to the world’s best surgical care and significantly reduced hospital stays.
St Andrew’s Hospital has worked with South Terrace Urology to develop pathways that ensure all St Andrew’s Hospital and South Terrace Urology staff deliver the highest level of care to patients having robotic surgery.
The Robotic Surgeons have access to the dedicated robotic theatre, which is run by highly skilled robotic nursing staff and this robot team is further enhanced by our ward staff who are well trained in nursing patients after robotic surgery.
Our collaborative approach has resulted in significantly improved outcomes for South Australian Urology patients and reflects the excellent relationship we have built with South Terrace Urology through these past years.
